The working principle of the foot valve

The foot valve is a lift check valve, which is installed at the bottom of the suction pipe of the centrifugal pump, so it is called the "foot valve". Before the pump is started, the valve disc is closed due to its own weight, which can fill the suction pipe above the foot valve with water. After the pump is started, the suction force in the suction pipe lifts the valve disc of the foot valve, so that the water flow enters the pump continuously. After the pump is stopped, the suction force disappears and the foot valve closes by itself.

The foot valve is also called a check valve. It is a low-pressure flat valve. Its function is to ensure the one-way flow of the liquid in the suction pipe and make the pump work normally. When the pump stops working intermittently for a short time, the liquid cannot return to the water source tank. The suction pipe is filled with liquid to facilitate the start of the pump.
